Friday, January 27 brings a ton of new songs and albums. I’ve been waiting on these for a while, and this may be the best new music release day…ever. It’s like every album I’ve been looking forward to came out today. Here we go!
Allison Crutchfield – Tourist in this Town
The co-founder of PS Eliot & Swearin’ returns with her first solo LP, coming after 2014’s Lean Into It EP. Her band includes members of West Philly punk stalwarts Radiator Hospital and Empath.
Cloud Nothings – Life Without Sound
Life Without Sound is Cloud Nothings 4th official full-length. Dylan Baldi changes pace once again, providing a mix between their poppy self-titled and their more recent, heavier, albums.
Fred Thomas – Changer
2015’s All Are Saved was a career highlight for Montreal’s Fred Thomas, and Changer is right there with it. There are some faster songs, but the emotional impact is still there. Plus, there’s a new edition of “Mallwalkers,” and it’s the best one yet.
Japandroids – Near to the Wild Heart of Life
Japandroids finally follow up Celebration Rock! Process the album title, then move on to the songs. It doesn’t have quite the same feel as CR, and the album cover doesn’t have the band members in a box, but the Vancouver duo still deliver another great album..
Julie Byrne – Not Even Happiness
The New York artist Julie Byrne’s music has a similar feel to that of Itasca and the Weather Station. They are followers of Joni Mitchell, but branching out in their own direction.
