Thao and the Get Down Stay Down bring their sunny, folk-tinged pop to Underground Arts on Saturday, April 16th, headlining a great bill that includes Saintseneca and Little Scream. They recently released what may be their best album yet, A Man Alive. The album was produced by Merril Garbus of tUnE-yArDs, and it bubbles over with positive energy. While it’s hard not to snap along to the rhythm of songs like “The Evening” and lead single “Nobody Dies”, Thao and the gang maintains their unique idiosyncrasies. Even the slower songs keep you looking up, as Thao Nguyen’s voice and songwriting shine. A Man Alive is a perfect album to welcome in spring.
Saintseneca released their 3rd LP, Such Things, in the fall on ANTI-. The Columbus five-piece pairs well with Thao, bringing in instruments like the dulcimer and strumstick to back up Zac Little’s wonderful songwriting. Their music videos are the some of the best, showcasing Little’s karaoke and costume design prowess.
Little Scream has signed to Merge to put out their forthcoming album, Cult Following, on May 6th. It’s Laurel Sprengelmeyer’s first album since the Polaris-nominated The Golden Record in 2011. Lead single “Love As A Weapon” proves that Little Scream hasn’t missed a beat, and they’ll off the show strong.
